Rental

Playing an instrument becomes even more enjoyable when the sound is good. That’s why you want to play a quality instrument. But if you’re just starting out with music, it can be quite a risk to immediately purchase an expensive string instrument. Do you want to start playing the violin, cello, or double bass, but aren’t sure which size suits you best yet? Then it’s wise to begin with a rental instrument.

Discover the benefits of a high-quality instrument without high costs

You can also buy inexpensive instruments online. These are often basic instruments that still require significant adjustments to produce a good sound. In the end, that can cost you more. Therefore, ask your teacher or a luthier for advice before purchasing such an instrument. Of course, you can also come to me for a quality instrument for purchase.

You can come to me for the following instruments:

  • violin (all sizes)
  • viola
  • cello or baroque cello
  • double bass

How does renting a string instrument work?

At Atelier voor Strijkinstrumenten, you always rent a complete set: instrument, bow, and protective case. The instruments are well maintained and ready to play immediately. You always pay a fixed rate per quarter (via direct debit), and the contract renews automatically with a notice period of 1 month.

If you would like to exchange your rental instrument for a different size, you can do so during the contract period. Simply make an appointment and visit my workshop in Groningen—you can go home with your new instrument right away. This way, you can keep making music every day.

Maintenance of your cello, double bass, or violin

When you play an instrument, it’s important to have it maintained every year. This includes, for example, replacing the strings. I prefer to carry out this maintenance myself to ensure it is done properly, as I am a certified luthier. Naturally, maintenance is included in the rental price.

Insurance

If your rental instrument is dropped or otherwise damaged, this is not covered by the standard rental price. I therefore recommend taking out an instrument insurance policy if you travel frequently with your instrument. If something happens to your instrument at home, it is usually covered by your home insurance.
